Sometimes I feel like a toy someone got for christmas. It looks good and is fun for a while but then the gloss wears off. It doesn’t quite live up to the expectation and then is left in the graveyard with all the other toys that just didn’t make the cut. They find out you only do the things it said on your ‘advert’. You can’t be anything else because it’s the way you were made. They find out you can’t be what they wanted you to be… they find out you’re only human.

There’s only so many times you can hear the phrase ‘It’s not you, it’s me…’ from different lips before you realise that it is ‘you’ (…me). There’s only so many times you can be disregarded before you stop blaming everyone else and realise that some how, you are the thing that is broken. You can never find out how you’ve displeased them or what it is about you that doesn’t work because they never tell you… they don’t care they just want a new toy… or to play with an older toy they forgot they used to love. I don’t think I’ll ever possess the special feature which deserves that love… even when I am shown love it usually doesn’t extend past an infatuation about how I look. How can you trust a love based on something so transitory.

I feel a sadness growing inside of me that is unbreakable… a darkness that will never see the light. It’s times like this that you realise that compared to the world. You. Are. Insignificant. Life isn’t fair and people don’t always get what they want. It’s infuriating because you always see these childish, selfish people stepping over others and screwing them around and they just get away with it. I was always taught to ‘treat others the way I would want to be treated’ but it seems that it is a deed without reciprocation. I’m still pushed around and told ‘you’re not good enough’… with a song that has so many different versions I don’t even notice I’m hearing it anymore.

The biggest frustration is that no matter how many times I get my heart broken… no matter how many times I get abandoned I am ALWAYS still the bad guy or the slut or the home wrecker… normally without having done anything; except being naive. I wear my heart so much on my sleeve that I forget that everyone around me is wearing a mask. I’m stupid enough that you say anything to me and I’ll believe it… because I don’t think I deserve to question your motives. I’m always grateful that I was even considered, just happy you deigned to spend a moment with me.

Don’t do me any favours… I didn’t ask for it and I’m losing the ability to carry the burden you leave behind. I can’t keep holding you up. Eventually Atlas has to shrug.
